We’re often asked when – and just as importantly, where – is the best time to train.

There isn’t one single “right” answer.

Training works best when it’s built into everyday life, through multiple short, positive sessions spread throughout the day rather than one long formal session.

Moments:

  • Before meals
  • During walks
  • At the door
  • In the garden
  • In the living room

All count as training.

And this doesn’t just apply to puppies or young dogs. Dogs of any age can benefit from ongoing training and continue learning throughout their lives.

Using your normal daily routine and everyday environments as training opportunities helps reinforce good habits and keeps skills relevant in real-life situations.

Dogs can continually learn new skills and tricks, provided we give clear cues to help shape or capture desirable behaviours.

This kind of training not only improves reliability but also keeps dogs mentally stimulated and engaged.

Being consistent across different places and situations helps dogs understand what we’d like from them and builds confidence without needing long, formal sessions.
